The Tokyo Olympics: new skateboarding features
Incredible but true! This year and from 25 July 2021, the Tokyo Olympic Games will welcome a new sporting discipline for the first time: skateboarding. This is a historic date, and fans of skateboarding can be proud to support their favourite athletes competing in this new official discipline at the Olympics.
A decision complex
Considered a libertarian sport, skateboarding had little chance of being included in the Olympic Games. For some, inclusion in the Olympics was heresy for skate culture. But it wasn't! Although the rigours of the Olympic Games and the underground culture of skateboarding do not mix well, it would seem that minds have been broadened.
Despite this historic decision, skateboarding skateboarding is not well thought of in Japan. Unrelated to Japanese culture, skateboarders are often compared to rebels and delinquents... These are absurd clichés when you consider the number of sports professionals who make up the competitive skateboarding game.
Things are going well for skateboarders French
France didn't want to miss the boat with the arrival of this new Olympic discipline. This year, there are two categories: park, with aerial figures, and street, with urban obstacles.
The French Olympic hopefuls include three male and two female skateboarders: Vincent Milou, Vincent Matheron, Madeleine Larcheron and Aurélien Giraud.
In any case, at ActiveBaseWe're delighted to see that skateboarding (and surfing too, for that matter) are officially taking their place at these famous Olympic Games. What's more, did you know that Tokyo's skateboarding culture is booming? Perhaps the Japanese are also taking their ergonomic seat for back pain when skateboarding 😉
